Artazuri Garnacha -
Printer friendlyCategory: RED Vintage: 2004 Title: Artazuri Garnacha Producer: Artazu Project Grape: Garnacha Country: Spain Region: Navarra Subregion: Artazu Taste Profile: Smooth & Silky, Complex Tasting Notes: Cherry, Chocolate, Figs, Tobacco Score: 89 [WA] Description: This wine is composed of 100% Garnacha from 60-80 year old Grenache vines. The Artazu project was created by Juan Carlos Lopez de la Calle of Rioja’s famous Artadi estate. The goal was to take the same quest for varietal purity that the estate seeks in Tempranillo to the Garnacha varietal. As Artazu is located in the northern part of the Navarra region (Northeastern Spain), it benefits from small doses of the cold winds of the Pyrenees as well, helping to make wines of extraordinary elegance and structure. This wine drinks like a far more expensive wine than it is. It has both a bright side, as well as a dark side to it's flavors. Layers of milk chocolate are stacked against vivid raspberry and cherry fruit. This is one of our favorite values from Spain-one you should not pass up. Enjoy this wine with beef stews, or a calzone filled with italian sausage and roasted red peppers.
